Panna Cotta

Panna Cotta was born from a question that had been obsessing me for some time: is it still possible to create a vanilla fragrance capable of surprising? To do so, I started from an unexpected ingredient: iris from Tuscany. Iris pallida is at the heart of this composition, grown by one of the few producers in Italy who also carries out its own extraction process, at 635 metres above sea level on the hills of Chianti. This is not just a sweet perfume; it’s a neo-gourmand designed to push gourmand perfumery into new territory.

For this project, I really wanted to play with shifting olfactory textures. First, you smell a milky, lactonic accord, like a spoonful of freshly prepared Panna Cotta. Then comes a gourmand bomb of sticky vanilla, sophisticated tonka, and a powerful yet elegant icing sugar accord. The plot twist arrives afterwards: these sweet notes gradually unveil an iris accord, built with real orris rhizomes (so it’s not just a marketing “note”), opulent tuberose and carrot seed essential oil, which many people associate with the scent of make-up and talcum powder.
The vibe evolves as well: from creamy to powdery, from sweet to floral, from modern to vintage.

This is a project I incubated for over a year, testing several versions of the formula during summer holidays. The final version I’m releasing has incredible projection and longevity. I sprayed it on one morning before a beach day, and you could still smell it strongly on the skin after sunbathing and swimming in the sea. I almost couldn’t believe it myself.

ORRIS ROOT ABSOLUTE (Iris pallida) grown in the hills of Chianti Senese

In Castellina, Iris pallida has been cultivated since 1962 on the calcareous hills of the Sienese Chianti, at 635 metres above sea level. Over three generations, the Domini family has specialised in the cultivation and transformation of aromatic plants, becoming one of the very few Italian producers to carry out its own orris extraction entirely in-house.

The iris is grown on stony, highly draining soil ideal for the rhizome, which is harvested after a three-year cycle. Once cleaned and peeled by hand, only the white rhizome - the most prized part - is selected for aging and extraction.

During curing, the concentration of irones progressively increases within the root, developing the characteristic powdery, velvety scent that defines orris in perfumery. The resulting absolute reveals warm woody facets, soft floral nuances, and the unmistakable talcum-like depth of Tuscan iris.
